The Barn

Hippies at Heart

We're all a little bit awed by The Barn. Its magnificent silo rising to the sky, it stands strong in its surroundings. A reminder of a simpler day, a connection to the past.

a symbol of...

Commitment

We take great pride in preparing and delivering your orders. From selection and packaging through delivery, it is our obligation to provide the hands-on-care that each of our customers and their orders deserve.

Community

Throughout its history, The Barn has always served the concept of community. We continue that tradition today by reaching out to communities around the world. Communities that celebrate and share in the spirit of Peace, Love & Rock N' Roll.

Craftsmanship

A handcrafted treasure itself, The Barn, reflects our commitment to providing the highest quality products for our customers. Whether guitars, hippie chic apparel, or global artifacts, we are dedicated to the design and craftsmanship of our products, and supporting the talented artisans that create them.

Conservation

The Barn stands as a symbol of our dedication to protecting the home that we all share. As a repurposed structure, The Barn reduces our environmental impact as well as preserving an icon of the American heartland.

The Barn's home, peaceful Marble Lake Ranch in Spirit Lake, Iowa, has been in our family for over twenty years. It was our home once, too. When we dreamed up Two Old Hippies, we needed a place to warehouse all our finds. To keep them safe and sorted until we could send them off to you. The Barn was a natural choice.

It took a little doing to get The Barn in shape for its new role. To establish a new rhythm, you might say. Our friends in Spirit Lake, and well beyond, pitched in and now the place is humming along. Refreshed, invigorated. Ready to Rock N' Roll.

Our process is simple. In constant discovery mode, we poke around the planet for 2OH, hippie chic clothing we feel good in and gifts we'd like to share. Into The Barn they go, along with everything else that expresses our hippie sensibilities and One World way of life - specialty guitars, Rock N' Roll Memorabilia, global artifacts.

From the moment they reach us until they're sent on their way to you, every item is handled with care. With conscience. With the idea that once it reaches you, it will become part of who you are. Everything we send goes with an expression of gratitude - and an invitation to continue to engage in the values stemming from this peaceful place.

The iconic barn was built over sixty years ago and modernized into our warehouse while preserving the original interior woodwork, beams and hardwood floor. In its latest incarnation, it stands ready to deliver on the Two Old Hippies' lifestyle of Peace, Love & Rock N' Roll.

a story to be told

A little wild, but all true. A quick history of Marble Lake Ranch, The Barn, and the communities it has served.

    1857
  • In 1856, seven families settled in and around Spirit Lake, in the Iowa Great Lakes region. One of them, the Marbles, was a young newlywed couple. Their settlement was just to the east of where The Barn sits now, on the lawn where the large boulder rests. At the time, a band of Santee Sioux, led by Chief Inkpaduta, used the area as a hunting ground. In the early Spring of 1857, growing tensions between the Sioux and the settlers led to what has come to be known as the Spirit Lake Massacre. Traveling from settlement to settlement, leaving behind a path of mayhem and murder, the marauding Inkpaduta and his band of warriors finally arrived at the Marble's log cabin. Mr. Marble was shot with his own rifle and Mrs. Marble was taken hostage. And so the story goes.

  • 1940s
  • The Barn is built on the site of the former Marble homestead, just off the shores of Marble Lake.

  • 1960s
  • The Barn gets converted into a honky tonk, offering local bands a place to entertain residents and a growing number of vacationers finding the lakes and rolling countryside a pleasant escape.

  • 1988
  • The Barn is acquired and renovated by Tom, leaving the stage intact. It continues to provide many nights of entertainment for local weddings and community events.

  • 2009
  • Today, The Barn and Marble Lake Ranch embark on a new chapter, serving a new and larger community as the Two Old Hippies warehouse and distribution hub.
